Mauritius Gem is an independent guide to the island for people planning one to two weeks with a hire car. It is opinionated on purpose: every place here has a line on why to go, how to actually do it, and the months it works. If something is not worth your time, we say so or leave it out.
We pay for the site through affiliate links on car hire, tours and accommodation. If you book through one of those links we earn a small commission and you pay the same price. Nobody pays to be listed and nothing on the site is sponsored.
Photographs are used under Creative Commons licences from Wikimedia Commons and are credited under each image and on the credits page. We also feature photos from travellers via Instagram (@mauritiusgem); we ask permission first and credit the photographer, always.
