Flic en Flac

The long public beach of the west coast: calm lagoon, filao shade, food stalls at weekends and the island's most reliable sunsets.

Why go

Flic en Flac is where Mauritians go to the beach. It is several kilometres long, the water is flat and shallow, there is shade, and at sunset the whole coast turns orange. Weekends bring families, music and the best street food on the coast.

How to do it

Free. Park along the coast road anywhere between the village and the hotels to the south. Snorkelling is best off the rocks at the northern end; the rest is sand. Dholl puri and fried noodles from the vans on the road at weekends.
