Grand River South East waterfall

A wide waterfall where the island's longest river meets the sea, visited by boat from the river mouth and included in most Île aux Cerfs day trips.

Why go

The falls are not tall, but the approach is: you come up a tidal gorge by boat, monkeys on the rocks, and the river drops into the pool in front of you. It is the standard stop on an east-coast boat day, and one of the few waterfalls on the island you reach without walking.

How to do it

By boat from GRSE village or as part of a catamaran or speedboat day to Île aux Cerfs. The boatmen will offer a swim under the falls; the water is fresh and cold. Tip the boatman, not the monkeys.
