The thumb-shaped peak above Moka: a two-hour walk up a clear path to a summit with Port Louis, the north coast and Pieter Both in one turn of the head.

It is the easiest big view on the island. The path is obvious, the climb is steady, and from the top you get the capital, the northern plain to the sea, and the odd boulder-topped peak of Pieter Both next door. Darwin climbed it in 1836 and said much the same.
Free. Start from the trailhead above Petit Verger on the Moka side; the final scramble to the thumb is short and easy. Start early, the summit is exposed by mid-morning. Two to three hours return.
