Why go

It is the oldest botanical garden in the southern hemisphere and it looks it: avenues of palms, spice trees planted by the French, the pond of Victoria amazonica lilies that the whole island comes to photograph, and the talipot palm that flowers once after sixty years. It is also shade on a hot day.

How to do it

Paid entry, small. The guides at the gate are worth it for an hour if you want the plant stories; otherwise pick up the map. Mornings are cooler and the lilies are open.
