Pereybere
A small, deep, sheltered cove between Grand Baie and Cap Malheureux: the best swimming beach in the north, good snorkelling off the rocks, and food vans on the road.
Why go
Pereybere is a bowl of deep water with sand at the bottom, which means proper swimming rather than wading. The rocks on either side have fish. It is popular with Mauritian families at weekends and the vans on the road above sell the best fried snacks in the north.
How to do it
Free. Park on the road above; the beach is small so arrive early on Sundays. Snorkel off the rocks to the right as you face the sea. Showers and toilets on the beach.
